Named after Sallie, a brindle Staffordshire Bull Terrier who served as the mascot of the 11th Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War. Sallie’s unwavering loyalty and bravery in battle made her a symbol of dedication and perseverance. Sallie’s story embodies the spirit of loyalty that we admire in service dogs. At the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, Sallie became separated from her unit during the chaos of battle. For three days, she stood guard over the bodies of fallen soldiers, protecting them and alerting medics to wounded men who still lived. Sallie’s vigil on the battlefield represents the steadfast devotion that service dogs show to their human partners.
Sallie continued to serve with her unit until 1865, when she was tragically killed in action at the Battle of Hatcher’s Run. Her dedication to duty, even in the face of danger, inspires our Brave Sallie’s Bourbon – a smooth, bold spirit that stands strong in any situation.
Smooth and bold, named after Sallie, a bull terrier who fought alongside the 11th Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War.
