Barcuso’s Upland history is the story of Giuseppe Mancuso turning his pandemic-era garage bar, nicknamed “Barcuso,” into a popular downtown spot known for gourmet pizza, a vast whiskey selection, 1930s speakeasy vibe, and family-focused atmosphere, winning awards like Small Business of the Year for Upland, and thriving in the revitalized downtown entertainment scene.
Origins (During the Pandemic)
- Garage Beginnings: Owner Giuseppe Mancuso started a craft beer exchange in his garage with neighbors as local places closed.
- Name Origin: Friends called it “Barcuso,” a play on his last name, Mancuso.
Transition to a Business
- Inspiration: Seeing the garage become a beloved gathering spot, his wife encouraged opening a real place.
- Struggles & Success: Despite early financial challenges, Mancuso persevered, eventually opening Barcuso in November 2023.
